Four Important Decluttering Tips

We all accumulate items we don’t need or find hard to let go. Decluttering your home is one of the most rewarding and effective ways we know to mentally prepare for challenges ahead. And while it may seem daunting, we have four helpful tips to get you started. So put some music on and get ready to clear away!

Make a room plan

As Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.” So why not make a list of all the rooms in your home. A great place to start is usually where people visit the most while visiting your house, like the kitchen or bathroom.

Set Aside 30 Minutes A Day

We all live demanding lives. After dropping the kids at school, going to work, picking the kids up and returning home, the last thing we feel like doing is decluttering. When you do decide to declutter, don’t try to do it all at once! Setting aside 30 minutes everyday will allow you to see improvements in no time.

Store Seasonal or Excess Items

Placing some seasonal items in storage like winter blankets, clothes, Christmas lights, ornaments and all the rest will keep them out of the way until you need them next. You could also store some items that you may not want to throw and save for later; like a couch you love or extra pots and pans from the kitchen. Keeping them out of sight and out of your home will allow for extra room in the house and will help open the space in your living areas to make them look bigger!

Think about donating!

If your unwanted items are in good condition, reach out to a charity that resonates well with your values. By donating your clothes and household items, you can be sure that they will go to good use by supporting a cause you care about. As the saying goes, “one persons trash is another ones treasure”!
