Storage tips for Fly-in-Fly-Out Employees

Storage for Fly-In-Fly-Out Employees

At Storage King, we are proud to count amongst our clients many mining professionals. From drill operatives and engineers to executives, many professionals rely on our storage services to hold their belongings on both a short and long term basis. They count on us to offer the flexible storage solutions they need, whilst they fly off to far away locations.

If you are in the mining profession and are a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) employee, you will no doubt find elements of the job demanding.

Here we provide some top storage tips to make the whole process a little easier.

Arrange your Storage Situation Before you Leave

Time away onsite is tough and it is made tougher if you have loose ends at home. Things like managing property and belongings can be a major headache. Storage King allow flexible solutions for all FIFO employees, giving you the peace of mind you need to focus on the job. Whatever your FIFO schedule, you can have easy access to your belonging as and when you need them.

1Make Lists of what you need

Make a list of what exactly you will need for your time away and put these items to one side before you start sorting everything else out. It may sound like a minor detail, but in the upheaval of packing, you will be glad you did it.

    2. Pack Well Ahead of Time

Packing ahead of time is a no brainer, but when you’re moving away for work for the first time and putting your belongings into storage, you don’t always appreciate how long it will take. You always have more stuff than you realise and could spend days sorting through what to keep and what to throw away. Factor in time to get down to your nearest self-storage site. Once you’re at a storage King site, our staff will help you complete the process quickly, if needs be.

    3.  Book Self-Storage Ahead of Time

It’s always a good idea to enquire whether your local Storage King has a space available. We probably do as our sites are large, but you don’t want your boxes all packed with nowhere to go. Allow a couple of days to sort out any issues.

    4. Pack Up your Belongings Before you book the Size of the Unit

Our units come in different sizes to cater to different requirements. Pack up your stuff and see what size you need on our handy Space Estimator, where you can enter your items and number of boxes you need storing. It will tell you the approximate size of unit you need. If you need a removalist service, call us up and we will give you the details of a reputable local company.

    5.  Fill your Unit Carefully

As a FIFO employee, you may need everything locked away for a long time. You may come back within a few weeks or months and need immediate access to all or some of your items. Think ahead and consider what you will need first when you come back.
