How to Organise your Summer Gear

Summer storage

It’s that time of year again. The long sultry, summer days are coming to an end and the nights are drawing in. Those glorious peaceful days at the beach will soon be a distant memory – until next year at least! As summer comes to an end, many of us are left with a lot of things lying around that we no longer need. BBQs, sun loungers, summer clothes, surfboards and even boats. If you’re short on space, what do you do with it all? Storage King holds the answer.

Store those Big Bulky Items

The great thing about self-storage is that you can pick and choose the size of your space according to your particular equipment. Storage King offers spaces from 1 metre squared, which is ideal for small amounts of barbeque equipment, inflatables and sun loungers, maybe even some bikes as well. If you need a bigger storage solution, you can go for a larger option. Use our handy storage estimator to see what sized space you need.

We’ve all been there. Many of us have a lot of equipment that is used for part of the year only, and the rest of the time it is spent cluttering up your garage or spare room. If you live in a small house or apartment, you literally do not have space for all your stuff. What do you do with those tennis racquets, surfboards, inflatables, fishing equipment, barbeques, bikes, quad bikes and even campervans, caravans and boats? That’s not to mention the huge amount of toys that kids accumulate! The ideal solution is to put it in storage until you need it all next year.

Organise your Summer Wardrobe

What about those summer clothes you no longer have space for? All those summer dresses, skirts, tops and blouses won’t be seen for another year. Self-storage is a great way to keep them out of the way.

Use these simple tips when storing your summer clothing at Storage King to keep your clothes protected:

1.     Wash before storing

Ensure you wash and iron your summer clothing before storing. This will make sure surface stains and dirt don’t set into your clothing over time. Then you can take them out again next summer, give them a quick wash and they will be good as new!

2.     Use plastic containers

Airtight plastic containers are the best way to store your clothes. But don’t forget to make sure it is dry and clean! Lining the container with an old (but clean) cotton sheet will ensure your favourite summer outfits are protected.

3.     Clean, cool and dry

At Storage King we offer ideal storage conditions for storing clothing.  Our facilities are clean, cool, dark, dry and safe, perfect for keeping your clothes safe whilst you make room for your winter wardrobe.

Storage tips for Fly-in-Fly-Out Employees

Storage for Fly-In-Fly-Out Employees

At Storage King, we are proud to count amongst our clients many mining professionals. From drill operatives and engineers to executives, many professionals rely on our storage services to hold their belongings on both a short and long term basis. They count on us to offer the flexible storage solutions they need, whilst they fly off to far away locations.

If you are in the mining profession and are a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) employee, you will no doubt find elements of the job demanding.

Here we provide some top storage tips to make the whole process a little easier.

Arrange your Storage Situation Before you Leave

Time away onsite is tough and it is made tougher if you have loose ends at home. Things like managing property and belongings can be a major headache. Storage King allow flexible solutions for all FIFO employees, giving you the peace of mind you need to focus on the job. Whatever your FIFO schedule, you can have easy access to your belonging as and when you need them.

    1. Make Lists of what you need

Make a list of what exactly you will need for your time away and put these items to one side before you start sorting everything else out. It may sound like a minor detail, but in the upheaval of packing, you will be glad you did it.

    2. Pack Well Ahead of Time

Packing ahead of time is a no brainer, but when you’re moving away for work for the first time and putting your belongings into storage, you don’t always appreciate how long it will take. You always have more stuff than you realise and could spend days sorting through what to keep and what to throw away. Factor in time to get down to your nearest self-storage site. Once you’re at a storage King site, our staff will help you complete the process quickly, if needs be.

    3.  Book Self-Storage Ahead of Time

It’s always a good idea to enquire whether your local Storage King has a space available. We probably do as our sites are large, but you don’t want your boxes all packed with nowhere to go. Allow a couple of days to sort out any issues.

    4. Pack Up your Belongings Before you book the Size of the Unit

Our units come in different sizes to cater to different requirements. Pack up your stuff and see what size you need on our handy Space Estimator, where you can enter your items and number of boxes you need storing. It will tell you the approximate size of unit you need. If you need a removalist service, call us up and we will give you the details of a reputable local company.

    5.  Fill your Unit Carefully

As a FIFO employee, you may need everything locked away for a long time. You may come back within a few weeks or months and need immediate access to all or some of your items. Think ahead and consider what you will need first when you come back.

Hope you had a great Easter break

What do you do when you have four days off work and you're not going away? Well apart from the obligatory family get-together and too much chocolate I decided to clear out the spare room, I know, what was I thinking? I was already kicking myself for not organising an Easter escape to a beach-side location, so I had to distract myself.

What started out as a simple 'go through and toss' exercise, ended up more like an episode from 'This is your Life'. As I went through all the boxes I discovered long forgotten items that I once treasured, from a childhood doll, my first dog's worn out collar to forgotten Valentine's day cards that I may have actually sent to myself. I thought how handy they will come in though when I have dementia and will think how popular I must have been. As the tears began to well up and I dove further inside the labyrinth of boxes, filled with memories, I realised I couldn't just discard these treasures I had to preserve them.
Storage King to the rescue!
I sorted, cleaned, dusted, wrapped and packed in between a few coffees, more chocolate and half a box of tissues of course. At the end of the day as I stood back and surveyed my handywork, I felt a sense of achievement, like my Easter break wasn't wasted at all.

Storage King Remembers (2011 Floods)

12 months ago, many cities and towns in the state of Queensland were devastated by raging flood waters.  The sheer magnitude of this event even saw parts of NSW & Victoria heavily affected in the days and weeks that followed.

To those families, businesses and communities who suffered as a result, we hope and pray that time has allowed you to heal, re-establish and move on. To those individuals and community groups who unselfishly gave their time and money to assist those in need, we salute you.

Wishing you all a safe and prosperous 2012.
